Italian Local celebrates the joys of Italian cooking and local produce. Tobie Puttock gathers together 100 of his favourite Italian-inspired recipes, and shows us how to achieve authentic Italian flavours wherever we live. Convinced that cooking and eating should be about nurturing the soul as well as the body, Tobie urges us to use of the best available seasonal produce. Often he sticks to the script of Italian classics, such as Risotto Milanese. At other times, he improvises, resulting in inspiring dishes such as Potato Gnocchi with Morels and Vanilla. Tobie Puttock is an Australian celebrity chef best known for his association with Jamie Oliver (whom he met whilst they both worked at River Café in London). Puttock returned to Melbourne, where he set up his own Italian restaurant, Termini, and appeared as a regular guest chef on the Australian version of Ready Steady Cook, a cooking game show based on a British format. In 2001, Puttock returned to London, and helped Oliver set up the first Fifteen restaurant in Hoxton, London. Puttock remained at Fifteen as executive head chef for several years, until homesickness prompted him to suggest to Oliver that they set up an Australian version of Fifteen in his hometown of Melbourne. Puttock is now executive head chef of the Melbourne restaurant.
