How Vanessa Wilton
Won The 12 Week Body Blitz Challenge.
The new Body Blitz grand
champion for Women’s Fitness and Health
magazine, Vanessa Wilton, is a picture of happiness
and good health. She took on a huge transformation
in just 12 weeks with thanks to a lot of determination,
self-belief and love and support from her family
and friends. And her celebratory weekend in Melbourne
has topped off her journey thus far.

AFTER |
A happily married mother of four, Vanessa takes
care of everything on the home front, while her
husband works long hours. Juggling children and
house responsibilities, Vanessa was determined to
find a way to get back into shape, while still managing
to be a dedicated wife and mother.
“Twelve months after my last baby was born
I knew my child bearing days were over and I desperately
wanted to get back into shape,” she exclaims.
I felt unfit, sluggish and lethargic and just not
motivated. I didn’t have a lot of time to
myself so getting fit became one of those things
that I was always going to do, but never got around
to.”
Vanessa is living proof that if you really want
something, there is always a ways and means of doing
it. And she did just that when she stumbled upon
a Women’s Fitness and Health magazine in her
local newsagent in Narooma.
“In between changing nappies, reading story
books and singing wiggle songs I read Women’s
Fitness and Health magazine and loved the idea of
the Blitz competition. I dug out my bikinis in the
middle of winter and got my seven-year-old son to
take the before shots.”
Amid giggles and smirks from her children, Vanessa
freezed her butt off, as she puts it, for her before
photos. The first major step to the 12-Week Challenge.
From there on she went about finding some old weights
of her husband’s, and using information provided
by the Women’s Fitness and Health magazine,
Vanessa devised her own weight training program
and complimented this with a cardio regime.

Her exercise program was balanced and was geared
towards building muscle and losing body fat. Everything
was set-up at home where Vanessa was easily able
to keep her eyes on the children while she did her
daily workout.
“I worked-out in the lounge room where I could
watch what the children were up to in the back yard.
I would wait till my youngest had his day sleep
and then I’d train like mad to finish before
he wokeup.”
Vanessa’s training equipment consisted of
one set of dumbells and a barbell. For her cardio
training she did a combination of running, swimming,
walking and stair climbs. She also added something
a bit different by jumping and jogging on a mini-tramp.
Sometimes she would get so into it, she’d
be jumping around to music like a mad woman! It
was fun and fitness at the same time.
So when she got the call telling her that she’d
earnt the title of 2003 Body Blitz Grand Champion
in the women’s division, Vanessa was ecstatic.
This meant, among other prizes, a trip to Melbourne
where she was to be treated like a celebrity and
photographed all weekend.
“I couldn’t believe it! I now have loads
of energy, lots of laughter, cool confidence, inner-strength,
heaps of happiness and additional respect and admiration
from my family and friends. I ask you, what more
could a girl want?”
It
was all fun and games when Vanessa and fellow Australian
Ironman Body Blitz Grand Champion Rick Brennan,
enjoyed the sites of Melbourne and daily photo shoots,
sporting their new toned physiques. But never once
did Vanessa lose sight of what is really important
to her, as she whipped out happy snaps of her four
cherubs, as she fondly calls her children, while
at a Body Blitz dinner with staff from Blitz Publications.
“When I got off the plane after my weekend
in Melbourne, I was met by my husband and children
who each had a single red rose for me. I cried!”
It’s been an emotional journey for Vanessa
and her family, but it’s all been positive.
It’s been an opportunity for growth and reassessment,
and a chance for Vanessa to decide where the next
phase of her life is going to take her. With the
results she’s achieved by doing the 12-Week
Body Blitz Challenge, things can only get bigger
and better from here. Check out Vanessa’s
